Jollyes’ releases images of royal visit to new flagship store

Visit launched Coronation offer – there’s a free groom for King Charles Spaniels between now and the end of May

Nationwide pet retailer Jollyes today (14 April) released images of the royal visit that took place at its new Scunthorpe store at the Gallagher Retail Park and confirmed that King Charles spaniels can get a free groom at selected Jolly Groomers and Spas in the run-up to the Coronation.

A beautiful King Charles spaniel called Paddington toured Jollyes’ newest location and gave the plans his royal seal of approval.

Paddington arrived on a throne, was crowned on a specially created bed from the Jollyes dog bed range, inspected the Frozen Raw ‘shop-in-shop’ giving it a regal lick of approval before processing to the new Jolly Groomer for his free wash and brush up.

To celebrate the upcoming coronation, Jollyes will be offering any pet parent with a King Charles spaniel, a free groom in any one of its Jolly Groomer locations from now until the end of May – not least because Saturday 28 May is also International Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Day.

“A free groom for any pet parent with a King Charles spaniel at any of our Jolly Groomer locations is no jest(er),” said Jollyes’ Phil Turner-Naylor.
“It’s the least we can do for the most royal of dog breeds in this special month of celebrations as we welcome the new King.”

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a British breed of dog. Four colours are recognised: Blenheim (chestnut and white), tricolour (black/white/tan), black and tan, and ruby; the coat is smooth and silky.

The Cavalier King Charles changed dramatically in the late seventeenth century, when it was inter-bred with flat-nosed breeds. Until the 1920s, it shared the same history as the smaller King Charles Spaniel. Breeders attempted to recreate what they considered to be the original configuration – a dog resembling Charles II's spaniel of the English Civil War period, when supporters of the king were known as Cavaliers.

Next week all Jollyes’ stores across Britain will have union jack bandanas and bow ties for £2.99 and an exclusive Jollyes pet t-shirts for £4.99.

  • The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel’s coat comes in many officially recognized colours. The most common is chestnut-hued and white fur known as Blenheim, a name derived from Blenheim Palace.
  • Black and tan members of the breed often have beige-hued fur on their eyebrows which draw attention to their eyes; dogs who are head to toe chestnut are referred to as Ruby Cavaliers, and Tricolour are black and white with tan highlights.
  • While a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has never won at the Westminster dog show, Alansmere Aquarius represented his breed in 1973 at the international dog show Crufts in the UK and took home the top title.
  • The “thumbprint” mark that crowns the head of the Blenheim Spaniel is said to have come from the hand of The Duchess of Marlborough from worriedly stroking the head of a pregnant Spaniel while her husband was fighting in the battle of Blenheim.
  • The beauty of the breed has been captured on canvas by many famous artists over the years, among them Pierre August Renoir, Thomas Gainsborough and Sir Joshua Reynolds.
