Bank holidays provide an excellent opportunity to cherish moments with your beloved pet as part of your family. These breaks from routine offer ample time for you to engage in activities that not only rejuvenate you but also strengthen the bond with your furry companion. You don’t have to make big plans or do anything super extravagant for your four-legged family member to appreciate spending time with you. You can go big or just stay home but either way, you can use the time to really bond with your best friend and treat yourself to a fun day out in the process.
We’ve come up with three options to have you and your pets make the most out of the extra time you have at home. Whether you love to take your pooch out to find new and exciting places or come up with new and innovative games to play indoors.

Take them on an adventure

There are plenty of ways you can get out of the house with your furry companion and find something fun to do when a bank holiday finally rolls around. Here are just some examples of what you can look forward to on those days.

Go on a hike

Ready to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and immerse yourself in nature with your trusty sidekick? Lace up your hiking boots or slip on your walking shoes to find some winding paths and lush greenery. You can use this as an opportunity bask in some of the UK’s more picturesque walks. Your four-legged friend will be in their element, noses twitching while they busy themselves with finding all the best new smells. Let’s also not forget the health benefits of all that fresh air and exercise.
Who says you have to travel far to embark on an adventure? Sometimes, the best discoveries are right on your doorstep! There are plenty of dog friendly beaches all across the UK where you can go for a paddle and enjoy a bit of sun. If you’re looking for new places to visit, you can find your nearest National Trust. While your furry friends may not be able to venture into the historic buildings, many of the surrounding gardens and land are dog-friendly and a great place to go for a walk.

Make a meal out of it

There's something undeniably special about savouring a meal in the company of your furry friend. So why not treat yourselves to a nice lunch at a pet friendly cafe or pub? As you settle in at a cosy outdoor table, your furry friend will usually be the star of the show and lap up all the extra attention. They might even get to enjoy a treat or two. While you chat and catch up with friends, your four-legged companion will be basking in the sunshine and soaking up the laid back atmosphere. It's the perfect opportunity to unwind and recharge, as well as include your beloved pet in things you love to do.
To include your canine companion even more, consider having yourselves a cute picnic. You can do this with friends as a social gathering or just as a way to spend an afternoon with you and your fluffy bestie. Make sure you bring along plenty of doggy safe food and some of their favourite treats and you can make a day of it together.

Enjoy activities at home

You don’t have to go further afield to have a fun day which is great news if you have a four-legged companion who might not appreciate walks or even enjoy leaving the home. You may be greeted with a wagging tail if you even mention a walk around your pup but it’s highly doubtful that your rodent pals would appreciate it quite so much. Getting creative at home can be just as fun as leaving the house during your bank holiday.

Homemade treats

Get creative in the kitchen by whipping up homemade treats and crafting engaging toys for your pet. Not only is this a fun activity, but it also allows you to ensure that your pet's snacks are made with wholesome ingredients. You can pick out their favourite treats and get creative. There are plenty of recipes online for pet friends and perfect healthy treats. You can even turn it into a chance to make a new and fun activity feeder to give them some extra mental enrichment. Enrichment isn’t just for bigger pets but even your bunny can have fun with a homemade activity feeder.

Pamper day

You can’t take your pet to a regular spa but you can certainly bring the spa to them. Pamper them with a relaxing spa day complete with a grooming session, bath, and even a nice nail trim. Not only will they look and feel their best, but they'll also appreciate the extra attention and care. Grooming at home can be just as much of a bonding exercise as anything else and having a pampered pooch at the end of the day will make it all worthwhile.

Host a pet friendly party

Gatherings don’t have to just be for you to enjoy but you can throw your pets their very own social event that you can enjoy together. From meeting up for a walk or inviting everyone around, you can cater any social occasion to your furry family members.

Have a play date

Organise a gathering with friends who also have pets to create a fun and social environment for your furry companions. Watching them interact and play together will be all the entertainment you need for the day and you’ll have a very sleepy furry family member when it’s time for bed. Celebrate your pet with a party filled with games, treats, and plenty of pooch friends. From agility challenges to musical chairs, there are endless ways to entertain both pets and humans alike and make it a great time for all.

Host a barbeque

Fire up the grill and host a barbecue where pets can mingle in a safe and enclosed area. Enjoy delicious food and good company while your furry friends play. You can treat them to some grilled treats but be sure you know what food is and isn’t safe for your four-legged friend and their guests.
Bank holidays are the perfect chance to make memories with your beloved pet. With a bit of planning, you can create an unforgettable day doing activities at home, on an outdoor adventure, or by hosting a pet friendly get together. The important thing is to spend quality time together and deepen your bond. This bank holiday, go make some furry memories!Â
