  • How to involve your dog
Gone are the days when your dog was just your pet, these days they’re fully fledged members of the family so it feels only right that we celebrate their birthdays and involve them in big life events. It’s not uncommon to see furry family members at weddings and get-togethers where they may have been kept out of the festivities in the past. More families take their canine companions on holiday than ever before and it’s easier than ever to find pet-friendly businesses that allow you to do some shopping or grab a bite to eat while you have them with you.
It’s easier than ever to include your beloved pet in everything from a trip to the shop to the biggest events of your life and there’s no reason why International Women’s Day needs to be any different.

Celebrating International Women's Day

International Women’s Day is no new fad, in fact, it’s been a day of celebration in various countries since the early nineteen hundreds. The day itself is a globally recognised opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women everywhere. Each year has a specific theme. Last year the theme was to embrace equity and this year it's to inspire inclusion. In the spirit of inspiring inclusions, it’s the perfect year to celebrate the day with a woman’s best friend, their loyal furry companion. We’ve come up with some ideas that you can do with your furry friends to make sure they’re included in the celebrations.

How to involve your dog

You might be surprised by how much you can involve your pup to celebrate International Women’s Day. One of the great things about the day is that you can choose to celebrate it any way you might like. It can be as laid back or as exciting as you prefer and that means you can also easily arrange a day to suit your beloved fur baby’s preferences too!

Throw a pooch party

What better excuse for a party than a day to celebrate yourself and all of your female friends? Any party can become a pooch party, all you need are some of your human friends and their furry friends. Think of it like a party for a kid except there are fewer tantrums and arguments over sharing cake. You don’t even need to provide entertainment, one of the best gifts you can give your pooch is having another four-legged friend around to keep them entertained!

Two dogs, one wearing bow tie, the other wearing an eye mask.
This option only works if your puppy is sociable and finds the company of other dogs fun. Dogs are like people, they’re all individuals and some enjoy playing with their friends more than others. If your pup is worried of other dogs or if they’re uninterested in socialising, they may prefer to have a quiet evening in with you or maybe just a party with some human friends to follow around and get some extra treats from. Nobody knows your canine companion better than you which means you can celebrate with them and have a party that perfectly suits them. Lots of people or dogs in the house can be overwhelming but if they have best friends they see and play with regularly, it can be a nice treat!

Make some delicious dog treats

While buying a nice bag of treats for your pup is a sweet and easy gesture, how about getting creative and making them their very own treats from scratch? Baking dog treats could not be easier and the best part is that many recipes are perfect for sharing! This simple peanut butter recipe is perfectly dog safe and delicious for your canine companion. If your beloved pet has never had a freshly baked dog treat just cooled from the oven, now is your chance to do something together and make something they will absolutely love.
Dog treats are easy to make for novice bakers and experts alike. If you’re a keen baker already, how many times has your pooch watched you bake something delicious and not been allowed any? Our baked treats are often so full of sugar or sweetener, they’re not suitable for them. They’ve probably sat at your heels giving you their best pleading eyes while you bake but this time they get to sample the goods!

Take lots of pictures together

A special occasion is all about making memories with loved ones and there is nothing that lasts longer than a picture. A family picture of you and your best friend is a great way to mark any occasion. You can get dressed up in something cute, maybe even a sweater to match this Rufus & Rosie Knitted Jumper and take lots of pictures. If you have any special places you like to go, today is the day you can treat yourself by spoiling your furry friend and making some memories that will last you. It’s easy to forget to celebrate the bond you share with your pets sometimes but if you start a tradition and make International Women’s Day the day where you and your fur baby celebrate together, you can start a brand new tradition.

Go for a walk or a run

International Women’s Day is all about celebrating achievements and it’s never too late to create some. You could go for a walk someplace new or finally go on the more difficult hike you’ve been considering for a while. A sense of achievement is one thing but being able to enjoy it with your four-legged friend is even better. You could use the day to set a new personal best if you go running with your pooch, go that little bit further or a little faster. If you don’t already go running you could try something new, just you and your pooch taking on a brand new challenge and doing something a little different on your walk.

In no time at all you’ll be shopping for your first hands-free lead like the Ezydog Road Runner Lead Black Variable to tackle more runs with your best friend.

Have a picnic

Perhaps you and your pooch like to live life at a more leisurely speed. Maybe your tiny chihuahua can’t quite keep up on a run so you have to find something a little more suitable for you to do together. A picnic may be something you could do together instead, after all, who is going to turn their nose up at delicious food? Bring along your favourite foods and an assortment of your pooch’s favourite snacks too. You can bring some food to share like watermelon and strawberries that are safe for you to both enjoy. As long as you avoid serving up anything that could be dangerous to your pup, you can have a nice relaxing picnic together.
Whatever you do this International Women’s Day, whether you want to try something new or put your feet up and have a well deserved rest, you can do it all with your best buddy at your side.
