Rufus & Rosie Size Guide: Collars, Leads & Harnesses

Whether you’re shopping in store or ordering online, let this size guide help you pick your pet’s latest look! You just need a tape measure and a few treats to keep your pet busy whilst you get to measuring.

It’s important your dog’s collar fits them comfortably, and so we recommend to measure around the base of their neck! Just check that the neck opening is bigger than your canine’s head (otherwise you won’t be able to get the collar on in the first place). Don’t hold the tape measure tight, you want the collar to fit securely but we always follow “The Two Finger Rule” – if you can fit two fingers between their neck and collar, it fits perfectly! If you can fit more than two or less than two, it’s too big or small.

There’s a couple of places you need to measure to make sure your pooch’s harness fits paw-fectly! Rufus & Rosie’s harnesses come with a matching lead for an extra stylish walkies, which makes choosing the right length lead for your dog oh so easy because it’s all done for you.

As well as measuring their neck, you need to measure their chest too! Specifically, you need the measurements of the widest part of their torso, to make sure their new harness sits comfortably and doesn’t dig in.

Once you’ve measured them, find out below where those centimetres correspond with Rufus & Rosie sizing.

Neck measurements (cm):

XS = 25-27         S = 29-31           S+ = 32-34         M = 35-36          M+ = 38-39         L = 40-42          

L+ =44-46          XL = 48-50         XL+ = 50-54

Chest measurements (cm):

XS = 36-38         S = 43-45           S+ = 48-50         M = 54-56          M+ = 58-60          L = 62-65          

L+ =  76-78        XL = 84-86         XL+ = 94-96

If you notice there are discrepancies between their neck and chest size and your pooch is between sizes, follow the chest size!

Actually fitting the dog harness is a simple sport! Here’s the steps we follow when fitting fellow furry friends:

1.      Keep all harness straps loose as you place the harness on your dog.

2.      Adjust straps so the harness fits, follow “The Two Finger Rule”.

3.      Ensure the straps don’t dig in and don’t prohibit your dog’s movement.

4.      Ta-da! Ready for walkies.
